If a person has a disability that would prevent them from starting an Australian Apprenticeship or traineeship because they are mobility restricted or need equipment enhancements to enable them to undertake on-the-job-training, then the ‘Assistance for Australian Apprentices with a Disability’ programme may be able to provide assistance.
Assistance:
- Tutorial Services
Up to $5500 for a year (inclusive of GST) - Interpreter & Mentor Services
Up to $5500 for a year (inclusive of GST) - Workplace Modifications
Help is available to pay for the cost of workplace adjustments and modifications for eligible employees. - Application for assistance is made through the Occupational Assessment.
- Application MUST be approved by the Australian Apprenticeships Centre. (BUSY At Work)
- May be eligible to receive wage support of either $104.30 or the weekly award wage for an Australian Apprentice, whichever is less and
- Is payable for the duration of the Apprenticeship or traineeship from the date of commencement.
- An Australian Apprentice who is eligible to attract DAAWS may ALSO BE ELIGIBLE to attract:
- The Support for Adult Australian Apprentices (SAAA)
- The Tools for Your Trade payment
NOTE: DAAWS claims cannot be paid until the Australian Apprenticeship has confirmation that the Training Contract has been formally approved.
