Queensland Training Awards 2011

The Queensland Training Awards for 2011 celebrated its 50th anniversary in style with seven award ceremonies across the State. BUSY At Work was a major sponsor of the State-wide awards, sponsoring the Bob Marshman Trainee of the Year and several category prizes.

The regional awards featured a highly talented group of finalists, with several BUSY At Work clients and their apprentices taking home titles. Representatives from BUSY attended the events across the State to present some of the awards.

For the South East, the Harry Hauenschild Apprentice of the Year was awarded to Guy Cox, part-time employee of the Picture Lounge and Bar. Mr Cox signed up as an apprentice in Year 10 with a Certificate II in Kitchen Operations. He has since gone on to complete a Certificate III in Hospitality (Commercial Cookery).

Two of BUSY’s clients went head-to-head for the main title of Employer of the Year in North Queensland. Industry leader Hamilton Island, who employs around 2000 staff, was announced the winner in Townsville. Finalist Abbot Point Bulkcoal who is also one of BUSY’s clients came in a close second.

Central Queensland saw multiple employers in the spotlight, with G&S Engineering’s William Hanrahan winning Apprentice of the Year. William is a 22-year-old electrician who has recently completed his apprenticeship and plans to pursue tertiary education. Mackay Sugar, who employs at least 550 employees won the prestigious Employer of the Year for the Central Region.

For South West Darling Downs, Brendan Ott of Toowoomba Grammar School was selected as Apprentice of the Year, closely followed by apprentices from two other BUSY clients. Employer of the Year for the South West went to Hastings Deering Australia Limited, and Cassandra Mills of Heyday Group won Apprentice of the Year for the Metropolitan Region.

The State finals have now been held and winners announced. BUSY At Work offers their congratulations to all regional and State finalists of the Queensland Training Awards for 2011.
