Skill Shortages

By 2015 there will be a shortage of 240,000 tradespeople in Australia. The Australian Government offers financial incentives to encourage businesses to curb this shortage by employing more people into that particular trade or industry.

The National Skills Needs List is a register of trades within Australia that are experiencing an ongoing shortage of qualified workers. This is based on research conducted by the Department of Industry, Innovation, Climate Change, Science, Research and Tertiary Education (DIICCSRTE).

If your business operates in one of the trades listed on the National Skills Needs List you may be eligible to receive financial assistance to take on an apprentice or up-skill current staff. This list is used to determine if you or your employee may be eligible for the following incentives and personal benefits:

1. Support for Adult Australian Apprentices payments
2. Tools For Your Trade payments
3. Rural and Regional Skills Shortage incentive.
