QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program

 

QGC Pty Limited and BUSY At Work formed a partnership attracting over 200 apprentices and trainees into careers outside the coal seam gas industry from February 2012 to July 2015.

The QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program have supported local businesses in Western Downs, Gladstone, North Burnett and Banana Shire to develop a local labour force in non-coal seam gas industries and contributed to creating sustainable communities in these regions.

Participation was free for businesses within these regions during that period. The Program matched local businesses with the right apprentice or trainee and then provided a structured mentoring program to support participating apprentices and trainees towards completing their qualification. The Program complemented existing Federal Government incentives available through the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive Program.

All industries outside the resource sector were eligible to participate. This includes but is not limited to industries such as health, administration, hospitality, retail, construction, childcare and automotive. Industries facing skill shortages were prioritised.
