Starting a career doesn’t always follow a straight path but with the right support, it can lead to real, lasting outcomes. What began as an employment opportunity with Telwater, Australia’s largest manufacturer of aluminium boat and trailer packages, has grown into the next step in Josh’s career.

Josh first connected with BUSY At Work’s employment services, as a job seeker four years ago, saying, “I was on a JobSeeker payment and BUSY At Work set up a job interview and even attended the interview with me. It’s basically the only reason I ended up working here at Telwater.”

Proving himself as a reliable and hard worker that wanted to progress, recently Josh was signed into a boat building apprenticeship, with support through BUSY At Work, a well-known provider of the Australian Apprenticeship Support Services. During the sign-up, BUSY At Work assisted with the paperwork, choosing the correct training qualification and training provider, explained what financial and other incentives are available to support both Josh and his employer, and discussed the availability of mentoring support when needed, to ensure Josh successfully completes his apprenticeship.

Josh said of his experience, “I’ve worked here at Telwater in the small boats factory for about four years now, cutting aluminium in metal prep. My apprenticeship here came from enjoying my job and getting to a point where I wanted to start seeing progression.”

Daniel, Apprentice Trainer at Telwater said, “I’ve worked with Josh over the last three years and Josh has always been very good in the role that he’s doing. Now that he’s signed up to do an apprenticeship, he’s going to be evolving and doing different things; a natural progression into learning how to weld and fabricate so he can go on to become a boat builder. Telwater is very committed to the training and development of all their staff and is a great place to be employed.”

Josh agrees, saying, “Working at Telwater, you come in with the same guys every day, great people, and you make friends for life. I’ve worked with Telwater for a few years now, I’ve walked through all the sheds, and I’ve seen all the work that they do from start to finish. It’s incredible that we have something like this on the Gold Coast.”

Daniel was happy with the apprentice sign-up experience, saying “I definitely think employers should go through BUSY At Work for their apprenticeships. For an employer that’s on the fence about putting someone on as an apprentice, BUSY At Work can help you with that.”
