$70m ‘Versace’ tower scheduled for Southport

A major residential development is earmarked for the Gold Coast.

Opportunities for Gold Coast apprenticeships may improve, with the recent announcement of a $70 million luxurious apartment tower earmarked for Southport.

Brighton Grand, a residential development that takes inspiration from Palazzo Versace, will boast 24 units, rooftop pools, marble floors and chandeliers, as well as several other high-end features.

The multimillion-dollar project, which is still in pre-construction phase, is due for completion by the middle of 2014.

Harcourts commercial agent Joseph Codianni said the complex is the first of its kind in the region, with apartment prices ranging from $890,000 to about $7 million.

“An apartment development as grand as this has never been seen on the Gold Coast before,” Mr Codianni told News Limited.

In other good news for south-east Queensland’s construction sector, Brisbane City Council has approved a multimillion-dollar playing field complex at Oxley.

The Brisbane Boys’ College (BBC) sporting facility, which will comprise several football fields, a hydrotherapy pool, gym and basketball and volleyball complex, will sprawl across 36 hectares.

BBC headmaster Graeme McDonald told Fairfax Media that the new complex is part of the school’s growth plans, which will see it expand from its base at Toowong.

“We have started work for our new middle school building at the Toowong campus, and we expect our student population to grow by about 200 to more than 1,700 boys as a result,” Mr McDonald explained.
