Apprenticeships in Townsville ‘offer great opportunities’

Plumbing apprenticeships in Townsville were just one of the opportunities available

Opportunities for various apprenticeships in Townsville were available at an Australian government Jobs and Skills Expo yesterday (December 12).

Earlier in the month, federal minister for employment participation Kate Ellis claimed there had been an “overwhelming” response to these events around the country and this week confirmed over 350 vacancies and training options were available at the Townsville exhibition.

She remarked: “From boiler makers and office managers to apprenticeships in trades such as electrical, plumbing and carpentry – whoever you are, there are great job and training opportunities at the Townsville Expo.”

There were over 50 exhibitors on the day, with Queensland senator Mark Furner urging people in the region to show up armed with their CVs and resumes.

“We know that breaking into the workforce can be difficult,” he stated, adding that exhibitions like this offer people a practical way of boosting their chances of securing employment.

Other opportunities on offer included vacancies in hospitality, such as food and beverage attendants, as well as crane operator jobs, construction positions and administrative staff vacancies.

The Australian government has delivered 69 jobs and skills expos around the country, with almost 25,000 people gaining employment, while thousands more have signed up for training.
