Brisbane housing development to boost real estate options

Queensland’s construction sector received a boost this week, after the state government unveiled plans for a multimillion-dollar housing project in Brisbane.

Minister for housing and public works Tim Mander said the $21 million Quadrant Apartments complex would boost real estate options in the city.

The Chermside development, which may create opportunities for apprenticeships in Queensland, will comprise a mixture of studio apartments and one or two bedroom units.

There will also be special housing options for seniors or people with disabilities.

“With over 23,000 applications on the waiting list for social housing, it is more important than ever to have effective partnerships between the government and the community housing sector,” Mr Mander commented.

“We have too many social housing properties that are old fashioned, expensive to maintain, and unsuitable for the small households who make up the majority of the waiting list.”

The Quadrant project will include 40 dwellings available for private purchase, a number of private rentals and several apartments available to lease under the federal government’s National Rental Affordability Scheme.

The Gold Coast could also be set to see several property developments in the future, after it was revealed the city council is planning to sell off “surplus” property assets, News Limited reports.

Several land parcels have been identified – including two major car parks – with an estimated value of approximately $30 million.
