Figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed full-time employment grew by 62,000, while 48,000 part-time jobs were lost. National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) figures released yesterday show the number of people starting an apprenticeship or traineeship has continued to decline. There was also a decline in the number of apprentices and trainees in-training, with 265,000 in-training as at 31 December 2016, a decrease of 4.5% from 31 December 2015. 37,400 More Jobs – Part-Time Trend Continues

Figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) estimated an increase of 37,400 more jobs from March to April 2017, although most of these were part-time. Full-time employment fell by 11,600 as part-time employment increased by 49,000. Australia's trend unemployment rate remained at 5.8 per cent for the fourth consecutive month.

New apprentice and trainee figures show growth in non-trade occupations

Figures release last week by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) show the number of people starting an apprenticeship or traineeship is up 2.9% for the September 2016 quarter, compared with the September 2015 quarter however, the increase is not from our trade occupations. The NCVER attributed the overall 17% increase to 23,400, in non-trade commencements which include hospitality workers (up 600); and sales assistants and sales people (up 500).
