Construction of Mater Private Hospital Springfield to commence in August

Greater Springfield is to welcome a new private hospital come 2015.

Queensland’s Greater Springfield community will welcome a brand new hospital come 2015, with construction of the $85 million Mater Private Hospital Springfield to begin in August.

The 80-bed hospital will offer a range of surgical and medical services for the growing community, with a combination of inpatient, day and chemotherapy beds, as well as a cancer care centre.

Mater Health services chief executive officer Dr John O’Donnell said that the hospital will be a “truly innovative, unique and contemporary model”.

Stage one works of the hospital are set to begin in August, which may create opportunities for apprenticeships in Ipswich.

The private hospital will also include 15 medical oncology treatment bays, a day surgery and theatre space.

Ipswich mayor Paul Pisasale welcomed the new development and said that when completed, current and future residents in the area will have a range of high-quality health services on their doorstep.

“This is the mustard seed that will germinate and grow into Australia’s premier health precinct,” Springfield councillor David Morrison added via the Queensland Times.

The Mater Private Hospital Springfield is expected to be completed by the end of 2015.
