Employment growth in Australia continues to ease

April Labour force figures released today by the Australian Bureau of Statistics show trend employment growth continues to ease from the relatively strong growth that we saw in late 2015. Employment increased by only 4,100 in April 2016 to now stand at 11,910,800.

Trend unemployment decreased by 1,900 to now stand at 726,600. However this slight decrease was not enough to impact the overall unemployment rate which remains steady at 5.7 percent, the same as last month.

Also remaining steady is the participation rate which experienced only a very slight decrease of 0.1 per cent in April 2016 to now stand at 64.8 per cent.

BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles, said that while the ease in Australia’s trend employment growth was not necessarily cause for immediate concern, it should definitely not be ignored.

“As a strong advocate for apprenticeships and traineeships we are calling all employers to consider taking on an apprentice or trainee to help build a strong and skilled workforce,” Mr Miles said.

As an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) Provider, BUSY At Work are there to provide full support to both the employer and apprentice throughout the life of the apprenticeship.

There are over 600 apprenticeships and traineeships available and plenty of support for both the employer and the apprentice. As an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network (AASN) provider, BUSY At Work are there to provide full support throughout the life of the apprenticeship or traineeship.

The Australian Government also provide support through incentives and funding for eligible employers and apprentices.
