Gearing up for National Skills Week – August 26-September 1

The spotlight is on apprentices, trainees and career pathways for National Skills Week from August 26-September 1.

The third National Skills Week is drawing ever-closer, and the event is set to highlight the skills, career pathways and values of those who pursue apprenticeships in Queensland and beyond.

The week is dedicated to raising the status of practical and vocational learning, and will be officially launched by Minister for Employment, Skills and Training Brendan O’Connor on August 13 at the Melbourne Automotive Centre for Excellence.

Various events will take place during the skills week including the ‘Urban. Rural. Remote. Indigenous Workshop’ at Southbank Institute of Technology, the Electrical Apprenticeship Readiness Assessment in Rocklea and the CQ Regional WorldSkills Beauty Competition in Mackay.

WorldSkills Australia’s international gold medallist Timothy Taylor will also speak at the official launch of National Skills Week. He recently took part in the 42nd WorldSkills International Competition in Germany, taking home gold in the Automotive Technology category.

Timothy will share his story at the launch, along with Australian Apprenticeships Ambassadors such as Bryan Norrie from the Melbourne Storm.

Check out the events happening in your area on the National Skills Week website.
