Global build competition ‘Canstruction’ comes to Brisbane

Budding builders and engineers pursuing apprenticeships in Queensland may want to broaden their ideas of construction when the global build competition Canstruction comes to Brisbane for the first time ever.

Canstruction involves the building of giant-sized structures made entirely out of canned food, with these cans then being donated to a community agency to provide assistance for people in need.

Engineers Australia Queensland is calling on small corporate teams of six to design and create structures in Brisbane’s CBD on Tuesday August 6 during Australian Engineering Week.

The event is an opportunity to showcase the engineering industry to the community and to demonstrate the design and construction talents of local companies.

Throughout the day, the public will be asked to vote for the best design, and the winning team will receive a ‘Peoples Choice’ award.

Registration for the competition has been extended to July 19, with teams able to register their interest online.

Engineers Australia Queensland has also released the Canstruction rules and regulations, so that participants know the preliminary and design documentation that they need to fill in and are aware of the safety plans and requirements.
