Gold Coast to welcome cruise ship terminal?

Plans for a new international cruise terminal on the Gold Coast are being considered by the Queensland state government.

At this stage, expressions of interest are being called for as the authorities determine how feasible such a project will be.

Deputy premier and minister for state development, infrastructure and planning Jeff Seeney acknowledged that developments such as these tend to generate a lot of attention.

“Already we have had a number of the world’s leading developers and tourism groups expressing their genuine interest in establishing a cruise ship terminal and associated developments on the Gold Coast,” he commented.

Mr Seeney revealed that following discussions with the Gold Coast City Council, it has been decided that an expression of interest process is the best way to move forward.

Jobs in Queensland could be given a boost if the development is given the all-clear – interested parties have until early next year to say if they want to be involved.

In recent days, builders throughout Queensland were asked to register their interest in the redevelopment of the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre.

The government is so far undecided over whether it should carry out work at the site, so has decided to gauge how builders respond to the project.
