Patchara cooking for QLD’s miners

For the past 12 months Patchara has dedicated herself to finding employment and her hard work has paid off having recently secured a role working at a Queensland mine as a Chef.

Despite holding formal qualifications and years of experience as a qualified Chef, Patchara struggled to find a job due to having a language barrier. While some job seekers may have let this stand in their way of success, Patchara commited herself to her job search, as she desperately wanted to continue working as a Chef as this was her passion.

Patchara initially visited the Busy Beat Pre-Employment and Training Hub in Southport unsure of how to find the job she so desperately wanted. The first step was for her to obtain one-on-one assistance from BUSY’s Community Service Officer to improve her resume and obtain pre-employment advice. Over several months of regular visits, Patchara was supported by BUSY to apply for a large number of suitable positions.

It was identified that Patchara was an extremely good cook however her language barrier meant she continued to struggle with the application process and could not communicate well during interviews. To overcome this, staff at BUSY helped Patchara prepare answers to questions that she may be asked.

Patchara’s application was noticed by a mining company after going through the vigorous recruitment process, she was successful in obtaining a position in the mines as a professional Chef. She is absolutely delighted and said “I couldn’t have done it without BUSY’s help, they have supported me so much and I am really happy to have found such a great job now”.

Well done Patchara, BUSY wishes you all the best in the future.
