Wide Bay Burnett apprentice claims top gong

Proving he has the best tricks of the trade up his sleeve, 28-year-old builder Matthew Hall was awarded the Queensland Apprentice of the Year last week.

Showcasing the best of the state’s housing and construction industry, the annual awards recognise building innovation and quality craftsmanship in a range of categories.

The outstanding apprentice, of Wide Bay Burnett, claimed the coveted win at this year’s Queensland Master Builders Housing and Construction Awards – proving his expert ability in the building field.

Mr Hall, who works for Murchie Constructions, said he didn’t expect to take home an award.

“It was a pretty good surprise to win.”

A Murchie Constructions spokesperson said Mr Hall was a competent and skilled tradesmen with the potential to become a leader in his field of expertise.

“Matthew has been exposed to a broad range of commercial and domestic construction, including shop fitting and cabinet making,” the spokesperson told APN media.

“Always a fast learner, he is noted for tackling any task with exceptional technical skill and a high level of thinking.”

The awards are the most prestigious in the business – recognising the achievements of apprentices, trade contractors, small family businesses, as well as the biggest names in the industry.

The National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards will be held next month.
