What is the ‘Tools For Your Trade’ payment initiative?

Trades listed on the National Skills Needs List could make your eligible for financial assistance with your apprenticeship.

If you are currently undertaking an apprenticeship or traineeship, you may also find yourself eligible for some extra apprentice support.

The Tools For Your Trade initiative provides support for Australian Apprentices by providing payment to help with the costs of tools, books, protective clothing and fees related to training.

These Tools For Your Trade payments are delivered as ‘tax exempt’ cash payments over the life of the Australian Apprenticeship.

If you complete your Australian Apprenticeship before the prescribed time for that traineeship or apprenticeship, and don’t reach a time-based payment point, you will receive the balance of the Tools For Your Trade payments owed to you.

Australian Apprentices undertaking a Certificate III or IV qualification leading to an occupation on the National Skills Needs List are generally eligible for the Tools For Your Trade payments.

If you are undertaking a Certificate II, III or IV agricultural qualification or Certificate II, III or IV horticulture qualification in rural or regional Australia you may also be eligible for the Tools For Your Trade initiative.
