Changes to the Australian Apprenticeships Incentive System from 1 January 2026
From next year, incentive payments for apprenticeships are changing with stronger support for housing construction and clean energy trades through the Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP).
1. Key Apprenticeship Program (KAP) incentives for housing construction and clean energy will continue, with employers receiving $5,000 and apprentices $10,000 in staged payments.
2. For other priority occupations outside KAP, apprenticeships from 1 January will attract a $5,000 shared incentive – $2,500 for the employer and $2,500 for the apprentice.
3. Grandfathering applies – if you started before 1 Jan 2026, nothing changes
4. Australian Apprenticeship Support Loans & Living Away From Home Allowance remain in place

Removing Barriers to Education
Paul Miles, Managing Director of The BUSY Group, was recently invited by 4BC Radio to discuss the role of accessible education and skills training through the University Study Hubs, a Federal Government initiative. The Study Hubs aim to improve successful completions for vocational and university students residing in outer and lower socio-economic regions, providing access to study spaces, digital resources and on-site support. The BUSY Group manage Strathpine and Beenleigh University Study Hubs, in the outer regions of Brisbane.
During the interview, Paul Miles shared this insight, "Employability has such a profound impact on your social welfare, social interaction, so many other things. We`re very passionate about trying to bring trades and employability into the education system at an early age. And the Study Hubs are about removing those barriers."
At The BUSY Group, we are committed to helping students discover their purpose and break the cycle of disadvantage. We aim to ensure everyone has the opportunity to succeed in their chosen path.
