BUSY At Work announces change in leadership

The Board of BUSY At Work today announced a change in leadership for the not-for-profit organisation. Paul Miles will take over as the new Chief Executive Officer on August 6 as Vivienne Mallinson steps aside after 22 years with BUSY.

Board chairman and founder, Martin Punch OAM, said the change signifies a new era for BUSY.

“This decision has been a part of BUSY’s strategic plan for some time as our belief has always been to have stable and considered succession planning,” said Mr Punch.

“Paul’s appointment will ensure that BUSY At Work continues to be a leading example of an innovative and robust not-for-profit dedicated to creating social change in employment, training and apprenticeships.

“Paul is a very accomplished executive with extensive experience in the financial services and energy sectors. He has a strong affinity and passion for the employment and training sectors having worked with BUSY for the past 5 and a half years.

“He knows the organisation, its staff and partners extremely well, he’s clearly an innovative leader who will work with the Board and staff in continuing BUSY’s exceptional work.

In making the announcement today Mr Punch praised both senior staff members.

“BUSY At Work and the employment and training sector are extremely grateful to Vivienne for her considerable efforts over 20 years in the role. Under her leadership, BUSY has established itself as a respected voice for the apprenticeships and employment sector,” stated Martin.

“It’s now time for a young, energetic leader to guide the business into a new phase of growth and I look forward to seeing how Paul brings about his enthusiasm and admirable flair to work with people.

After 22 years with BUSY, Vivienne will take some well-earned long service leave before returning in 2013 as Executive Director working in a part-time capacity on special projects, reporting to Paul.

Martin said since joining BUSY, Viv had been instrumental in leading many of BUSY’s major achievements including building BUSY’s Australian Apprenticeships Centre and developing sustainable programs that support unemployed people.

“I know I speak for all staff and stakeholders when I say BUSY will sincerely miss Viv who has been an inspiring and dedicated leader of the organisation,” Martin said.

“It was Viv’s desire to step aside at this time and I wish her well in her new role from February.”

Vivienne’s significant contribution to apprenticeships, employment and training will be celebrated later this year.
