BUSY donates over $10,000 to charities this Christmas

Queensland not-for-profit organisation BUSY At Work is assisting charities this Christmas by providing much-needed donations.

BUSY At Work will provide $10,000 in Christmas donations including 26 children’s bikes put together by staff for the annual Vinnie’s Christmas appeal.

BUSY has also donated funds to Emerald Neighbourhood Centre Linking Alms Appeal and Surfers Paradise Anglican Crisis Care in lieu of money spent in past years sending Christmas cards to customers, suppliers and stakeholders.

The two charities will each received $2500 which is expected to go a long way in helping people doing it tough this Christmas.

BUSY At Work CEO Paul Miles said BUSY is proud with the ongoing success of our Christmas program in highlighting the importance of giving to the community, particularly during the festive season.

“Putting together 26 children’s bikes could have ended in tears, but it was the exact opposite, a highlight for staff and a memorable afternoon as part of our annual conference,” he said.

“BUSY At Work is committed to providing essential donations to charities like Emerald Neighbourhood Centre on an annual basis.

“We applaud these organisations for the fantastic work they do in the community.

“BUSY has a long history of supporting charitable organisations across Queensland. Our charity program showcases organisations that have a special meaning to the BUSY team, giving us the opportunity to support organisations that our employees are passionate about.”

BUSY employees took part in a variety of in-office fundraisers throughout 2012, including morning teas, after hour events and raffles.

Recent activities this year have included:
• Annual participation in Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea
• Regular sponsorship and staff participation in Relay For Life which raised nearly $10,000 for the Cancer Council
• Participation in Vinnie’s CEO Sleepout to raise awareness of homelessness
• $2000 worth of sleeping bags, blankets, tents and socks to various charities for their winter appeal
• Staff participation in Harmony Day
• Financial donation to the McGrath Foundation after the loss of a staff member to cancer

“Our employees have my heartfelt gratitude for their kindness, generous commitment and support to help raise funds for people in our communities that are less fortunate,” Mr Miles said.

BUSY At Work is a not-for-profit organisation born and bred on the Gold Coast. Its vision is to keep more Queenslanders in jobs, learning new skills and exposed to positive social change. For more than 30 years BUSY has played a key role in growing apprenticeship and traineeship numbers throughout Queensland.
