Experienced educator becomes fully registered early childhood teacher, inspiring the next generation while advancing rural education.
After two decades in education and a unique journey that took her from teaching English in Vietnam to working with Australia’s youngest learners, Analyn Formston’s career reached new heights thanks to the Early Childhood Scholarship and Incentives Program (ECSIP).
The mother and educator, who transitioned into early childhood education in 2017, has become a fully registered early childhood teacher in Victoria through the ECSIP – an achievement that has changed both her professional and personal life.
“Working with younger children has deepened my appreciation for the foundational stages of learning,” Analyn reflects. “I am continually inspired by the curiosity, wonder and resilience of young learners.”
The path to qualification wasn’t without obstacles. Balancing full-time work as an educator while being a mother, wife and student required exceptional dedication. “Through perseverance and the support of my family, I was able to overcome these obstacles,” Analyn explains, crediting her husband as a key figure in her success, who provided everything from proofreading assignments to emotional support during challenging periods.
The scholarship program also enhanced Analyn’s professional networks and skill development. A memorable placement at a sessional kindergarten on Phillip Island showed her “how powerful collaboration can be in ensuring children develop a genuine love of learning.”
Now teaching at a highly regarded early childhood service in Mount Evelyn, the qualification has enhanced her professional capabilities and financial situation. She plans to pursue postgraduate studies, with her scholarship foundation serving as a springboard for continued development.
Analyn praises the comprehensive support received, particularly highlighting BUSY At Work’s responsive communication and assistance. Her message to the Victorian Government (funders of the ECSIP) reflects the significant impact, stating “I sincerely extend my heartfelt gratitude for providing me and other aspiring educators with the opportunity to pursue our studies. Your support has been both rewarding and life-changing.
Analyn’s journey illustrates the ECSIP’s effectiveness in addressing workforce shortages whilst empowering individuals to achieve their goals. Her success demonstrates how targeted support creates ripple effects – from individual career advancement to improved educational outcomes for children in rural and regional communities.
As she continues mentoring aspiring educators and contributing to Victoria’s early childhood education sector, Analyn’s success serves as an inspiring example of how government investment in education creates lasting benefits for individuals and communities across Australia.
