Give yourself options for the future

If you think a career in sport is something you would like to pursue in the future, then you will know that it requires hard work and commitment to training.

Even if you possess natural ability in the sport, consistent practice can help you to build your game and skills.

It’s always a good idea to give yourself other career options for the future though, having a backup plan ready once you retire.

GWS Giants coach Kevin Sheedy completed a plumbing apprenticeship and worked in the trade for some years when he started his career in professional football.

“Completing an Australian Apprenticeship was one of the best things I ever did. The skills I learnt set me up for life,” Kevin said via Australian Apprenticeships.

“I encourage the guys in the team to have a balanced lifestyle. Football won’t last forever, but having a piece of paper that can set you up for life is crucial to a successful career after footy.”
