Looking after Children Comes Natural for Alli

Nineteen year old Pittsworth local Alli Fox always knew what she wanted to do while at school so it comes as no surprise that Alli has fitted in very well at The Learning Tree Dalby, following the completion of her Certificate III in Children’s Services in November last year.

Such is Alli’s progress to date that she has already commenced her Diploma in Children’s Services and is well on the way to achieving her goal of becoming a child care leader at the centre.

Alli was thankful for the assistance she had received through the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program which has helped generate more than 200 new jobs in fields such as health, hospitality, administration and child care. The program is a partnership between natural gas producer QGC and BUSY At Work and was formulated to attract apprentices and trainees outside the resources sector.

“The program really helped me focus on my future goals. The monthly visits from my mentor kept me on track with my study plans and helped me improve my time management skills. Without the program I would not have been able to complete my traineeship early,” Alli said.

Alli’s conscientious efforts have not gone unnoticed with her supervisor and director of the Learning Tree, Leanne Stewart.

“Alli initially started with us as a “float” filling in at lunch times and when staff were away. For a young person she has shown great dedication and maturity and always has a very caring attitude towards the children.

“She has also demonstrated good communication with the families and has worked very well with our other educators. Despite having to travel over an hour each way every day she is always happy to stay back if required,” Leanne said.

Alli credits her interest in child care to having studied early childhood at school and to always being around children.

BUSY At Work CEO, Paul Miles said Alli’s positive attitude and commitment to her traineeship had set a great example for other young people to follow in achieving their career goals.

“Through the support of the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program Alli now has the confidence, skills and ability to succeed in her chosen career. She is not only making

a positive contribution to her employer but to the local Dalby region in which she lives,” Mr Miles said.
