New Apprenticeship Funding for Construction Sector

Changes introduced to the Australian Apprenticeship Incentive Program will see the building and construction sector benefit from extra funding.

The Federal Government has made available a bonus payment of $3,350 to small and medium sized businesses in the construction fields who take on a new apprentice between December 1, 2012 and February 28, 2013.

BUSY At Work Apprenticeships Services is currently working with thousands of businesses to inform them of the changes. The organisation has been contracted by the Australian Government for over 14 years to provide advice on apprenticeships and traineeships and to promote and administer incentives for apprenticeship opportunities.

BUSY At Work CEO Paul Miles welcomed the funding.

“There is no better time to invest in a young apprentice as this payment is in addition to incentives already available,” Mr Miles said.

“Bricklayers, welders, carpenters, electricians, plumbers, tilers, painters and plasterers will all benefit financially from employing a new apprentice.

“This is great news for the building and construction sector. This increased support will go a long way to help boost areas hit hard by the skills shortage.

“Other changes to incentives have also taken effect and I would encourage businesses to contact BUSY At Work to get the best advice on how this will affect them.”
