A New Start for Margaret

Margaret is a courageous young woman who took part in the second round of the R U BUSY? pre-employment and training program for 2013 and was determined to get employment as soon as she could. Margaret faced many personal challenges whilst on the course and being homeless and living in crisis accommodation was one of them.

Margaret had applied for many positions however had run out of luck finding work in this industry. The Youth Project Officer saw a junior position advertised at Bakers Delight and suggested Margaret apply for the job. Margaret had the courage and confidence to ring the number and speak to the owner on shift.

The owner asked Margaret to come in for an interview, followed by a work trial the next day which Margaret got paid for two hours of the work trial and got offered the position on the spot. The position turned out to be a Retail Traineeship and is part time which means Margaret can also complete her Certificate II in Self Awareness when she is not working.

“I’m so happy I found work. The people I work with are really nice, the bosses are supportive and really friendly. BUSY At Work has allowed me to start part-time work and complete my Certificate II in Self Awareness which gives me more opportunities and opens up more doors for the future. Now I can move forward in my life”, says Margaret.

Rebecca Slavin-Molloy, Margaret’s Youth Project Officer says “From the moment I met Margaret, I knew she was work ready and keen to make changes in her life. I’m so pleased she has been able to find work in a supported environment whilst learning all she needs for her Retail Traineeship. Margaret has already made leaps and bounds and I’m excited to see what the future holds.”
