When Bev walked into the Busy Beat hub in Southport earlier this month with a cake for the staff, it was a very joyous occasion given that she had just secured her dream job in an aged care facility.
Bev has been settling into her new full time role as a carer at the De Paul Villa Nursing Home which is within walking distance of her Ashmore home.
After working nearly 23 years in the aged care sector (mainly in New Zealand) Bev said she was looking forward to returning to work in her chosen career.
“I have been on the Gold Coast for just over a year and have spent most of that time trying to find work.”
“I’ve always loved being involved in aged care. I like to treat everyone as if they were my own parents so it will be good to get back into doing what I enjoy best,” Bev said.
Bev first visited the hub in May last year where she was assisted by BUSY At Work Community Support Services Officer, Rachel Jack who helped her with her resume and applying for jobs online.
“Although Bev did get to secure some part time work in September she wasn’t able to get enough work to cover her living costs. We continued to help Bev with online applications focusing on positions in the aged care industry.”
“In the end Bev’s tenacity and dedication towards finding work finally paid off. She is a very positive person and her weekly visits to the hub have proved very fruitful. I am sure she will be a valued member of her new team,” Mrs Jack said.
Bev said she was extremely grateful for the advice and support provided by the Busy Beat Southport hub.
“The staff from Busy Beat couldn’t do enough for me and were extremely helpful in me getting this position. I cannot praise them enough for their patience and their knowledge,” Bev said.
The Southport hub is one of two Busy Beat hubs (the other being in Ipswich) and was opened in January 2013. As well as offering pre employment training, the hub helps prepare jobseekers for entry or re-entry into the workforce. Assistance is also provided with resume writing, interview preparation and job search advice.
BUSY At Work, CEO Paul Miles said that Bev was just one of many local jobseekers who have been assisted by BUSY At Work’s Busy Beat hubs.
