Celebrating Skilling Queenslanders for Work Graduates

To celebrate the success of the varied courses delivered which included Barbering & Hairdressing, Hospitality & Tourism, Retail and Construction; this week BUSY At Work hosted a graduation ceremony for the participants who received their achievement certificates, and a morning tea to thank all those involved.

Paul Miles, Managing Director at BUSY At Work presented the certificates to participants at the ceremony and stated “The Skilling Queenslanders for Work program has proven to be a huge success for job seekers needing to gain valuable skills, work experience and connections to local employers. Without our host employers the program wouldn’t be so successful and BUSY At Work would like to thank those involved and the participants here today who were also committed enough to finish their course.” Paul Miles, Managing Director at BUSY At Work stated.

While some participants couldn’t attend because they were now working with local employers, in attendance were approximately 40 course participants, as well as representatives from the host employers, referring community organisations, RTOs and Julie Clarke from the Queensland State Government Department of Employment, Small Business and Training (DESBT).

Supported by host employers who provided the work experience premises, including Pullman Hotels, RSPCA Queensland, QML, Avalon Hotels, Arise Hotels and Hilton Hotels, and the RTOs who delivered the training during the course, participants are now equipped with valuable vocational skills and industry contacts that can assist them to move forward into work and further qualifications through apprenticeships or traineeships.

Dakiota Bond who participated in the BUSY in Construction course said “The teachers were really cool and I learnt a lot, especially about power tools. BUSY At Work are now helping me to get work in the construction industry – hopefully I can gain an apprenticeship through this!”

Avalon Burrows participated in the Hairdressing & Barbering course and recently completed a work trial in Brisbane.

“My fingers are crossed, the work trial went really well. I really loved the course, it is helping me to get into a hairdressing apprenticeship, something I’ve always wanted to do. I want to specialise as a colourist. Everyone at BUSY At Work was wonderfully supportive”.
