Raymond now working to support medical research and pharmaceutical manufacturing!

Like many other young people last year, Raymond was finding it difficult to find work due to the impacts of COVID-19.  He was referred to BUSY At Work’s Transition to Work program, a program that provides support services to young people who have disengaged from education or the workforce.

Thanks to the support from the Transition to Work program, Raymond has found local employment in Kingaroy, supporting medical research and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Raymond initially had contactless appointments with his Transition to Work consultant, he was always punctual and was very keen to find employment in his local area.

An unusual opportunity came through Selborne Biological Services (Aust) Pty Ltd who were looking for local people to join their company, contracting at Swickers, Kingaroy’s well-known pork processing plant and the largest in the southern hemisphere.

Swickers have been providing employment opportunities for Kingaroy locals for many years and provide well-known pork products. Swickers collaborated with Selborne Biological Services (Aust) Pty Ltd, providing the facility to collect the by-product waste blood from pigs, that will be used for pharmaceutical manufacturing, medical applications, vaccines, research to assist in finding cures for diseases in humans and other animals.

Selborne were looking for people to collect the blood product and samples, Raymond quickly jumped at the opportunity. After the necessary medical and safety checks, Raymond started in the role.

After a few days on the job, Raymond’s manager was so happy with how quickly and easily he was picking things up that he was then promoted to do blood to serum separation processes.

Raymond is thriving in the role and has shown commitment and a strong work ethic, always turning up on time and working well with the rest of the team.

Managing Director for BUSY At Work, Paul Miles said, “Finding work in regional towns like Kingaroy can be especially hard for young people so we are really pleased that through the Transition to Work program, Raymond is now employed, thriving and able to remain in his hometown. We wish him all the best in his new career!”
