Richard is super busy now – thanks to SCOW!

Richard is thankful for the support the SCOW program gave him and he is now busier than ever!

The Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers (SCOW) assists mature age workers (aged 45-70) who are either in the workforce or recently unemployed (3 months or less). In light of our ageing population, the Australian Government recognises the need to keep mature age workers in the workforce and the program aims to retain the vital skills and experience that mature age workers contribute.

Fast changing industries can mean older workers need to adapt and re-skill.

This was the case with Richard, someone with many years of corporate management experience in a variety of industries, who came to the SCOW program looking for career guidance assistance that will enable him to continue contributing in the workforce.

Richard’s SCOW case worker in Tasmania, Dennis Crispin, worked together with him to assess a strategy where Richard could continue earning good money and remain in the workforce. They both agreed that Richard’s skills were valuable and that he could thrive as a trainer for others in his industry, so Richard was provided with funding towards completing his TAE and other tickets so that he could gain work as a trainer in his field.

“Since being on the program I have completed my TAE upgrade, first aid courses and other tickets, and have now been employed with several groups in different areas. I am now working for a private RTO, as a cellar door manager, and have an international contract as a trainer as well. So much has changed for the better thanks to this program and your support!” Richard stated.

If you are an older worker (45-70), whether employed or recently unemployed (up to 3 months) and are looking for support through the Skills Checkpoint for Older Workers program, register your interest through www.skillscheck.com.au or call 13 28 79.
