Thanks to Transition to Work, Layla has found a new career path!

The impact of losing her job and the events of 2020 left Layla feeling low and unmotivated. She was soon referred to the Transition to Work program, delivered in her region by BUSY At Work.

The Transition to Work program is an Australian Government initiative and aims to assist young people aged 15-24 who are finding it difficult to find work after leaving school. A no-cost service, the program helps young people overcome barriers, build their resume, connect to work experiences and go onto work or further vocational study.

The Transition to Work team worked with Layla to discuss any of her barriers, as well as work opportunities and the career direction she may want to take.

Layla identified that she would like to obtain some office administration skills so she was enrolled in a Certificate III Business Administration qualification, which was funded through the Transition to Work program.

While she was studying, Layla also continued to regularly meet with her Transition to Work consultant at BUSY At Work, and at these times she attended numerous soft skills workshops which helped her to gain interview techniques and strategies for finding work.

The day came when Layla was ready to apply for a Business Administration Traineeship position and one came up within the BUSY At Work team, working in the Apprenticeship Support Network services team.

Layla was ecstatic to gain an interview and her Transition to Work consultant coached her and helped her to purchase interview clothing for the big day. Layla smashed the interview out of the park and amongst all the applicants and interviewees was successful in gaining the role – she couldn’t be happier!

The Transition to Work team continue to support Layla even after she gained the role, helping her to get over her first day anxieties and any continued apprehensions as they come her way.

Paul Miles, Managing Director of BUSY At Work, says the Transition to Work program is supporting young people, especially early school leavers and those affected by the impacts of 2020, to get back on their feet and into work.

“When you’re older it’s easy to forget how hard it is to get those initial opportunities into work, and how overwhelming that can be. Transition to Work is there to support young people like Layla and we wish her success in her role and her career moving forward.”
