Robert’s Hair Salon Goes from Strength to Strength

At just 21 years of age Robert Moore is not only a trained hairdresser, he is also proving himself to be an enterprising businessman.

After completing his Certificate III in Hairdressing at Biloela, Robert moved to Brisbane to gain further experience before deciding to open Robbiiee Hairstyles in September 2013.

Robert is already planning to employ two new apprentices following a highly successful 16 months in his Biloela salon.

“The salon has been going really well and I would like to take on a first and second year apprentice in the next couple of months to keep the business moving forward in the future.”

“I have been really encouraged by the great support I have received from the local community and feel the timing is right to offer other local apprentices the opportunity to develop their hairdressing skills in a growing business,” Mr Moore said.

Robert was full of praise for the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program which he said had provided great mentoring support as well as helping him to develop his management and people skills. Robert was recently one of over 50 apprentices and trainees to graduate from the second round of the Program.

The program was launched in February 2012 and is a partnership between coal seam gas producer QGC and BUSY At Work. The program matches apprentices and trainees with businesses in regional Queensland areas including the Western Downs, Gladstone, North Burnett and Banana regions while providing mentoring and coaching support to help boost retention and completion rates.

During the three year program, nearly 300 people have been placed in jobs in areas such as health, hospitality, administration and automotive services with QGC’s investment now totalling $3.5 million.

BUSY At Work CEO, Mr Paul Miles said that BUSY At Work played an active role in the success of the program.

“Our goal at BUSY is to match local businesses with the right apprentice or trainee and Robert has been an outstanding example of what a young apprentice can achieve with the right commitment and dedication.”

“Our structured program is not just about careers but helping participants gain important life skills in management and business. By providing outstanding coaching support and an excellent mentoring program we have witnessed a very positive outcome not only for Robert but for the Biloela region as a whole,” Mr Miles said.
