Sakshi Kalia was working as a diploma-qualified kindergarten assistant where she had built a solid understanding of the paperwork and daily responsibilities involved in supporting children’s learning and development. Wanting to deepen her knowledge and enhance her skills, Sakshi decided to continue her studies. Accepted into the Early Childhood Scholarship and Incentives Program (ECSIP), Sakshi was given the opportunity to build on her experience and take the next step in her professional growth.
One of the key challenges Sakshi faced before and during her role as an Early Childhood Teacher was managing the transition from being an assistant to taking on greater leadership and planning responsibilities. She overcame these challenges by staying organised, seeking mentorship from experienced colleagues and continuously reflecting on her teaching practices.
The ECSIP helped Sakshi gain valuable skills in leadership, communication and organisation. It also deepened her understanding of early childhood education practices, giving her more confidence in planning and delivering quality learning experiences.
“Receiving this scholarship has made a big difference in my studies toward becoming an Early Childhood Teacher. It has eased my financial stress and allowed me to focus more on my learning and placements. It also gave me confidence and motivation to keep working toward my goal.”
During the Scholarship, Sakshi participated in group projects, took on leadership roles and contributed to community early childhood programs. This helped her develop teamwork, communication and organisational skills. She is currently working as an Early Childhood Teacher, applying her skills to support children’s learning and development.
One of her favourite memories as a program recipient was leading a learning activity for the children during her placement and seeing their excitement and engagement. Sakshi found it rewarding to apply what she had learned and witness the positive impact on their development, which reinforced her passion for becoming an Early Childhood Teacher.
Being supported by her Early Childhood mentor during her placement played a significant role in Sakshi’s success. Her mentor provided guidance, shared their learned experiences and offered constructive feedback.
Finding the communication and support from BUSY At Work very helpful, Sashki said she was able to easily access information, and the process was straightforward and efficient. She thanks the program funders for their support with the scholarship making a significant difference in her career.
By investing in students like Sashki, the ECSIP helped her achieve her career goals and positively impact the lives of children.
