Skills Queensland reveals the state’s latest skills in demand

Electricians were listed in Skills Queensland's recent skills in demand list.

Occupations such as mining engineer, electrician, fashion designer, outdoor adventure guide and agricultural technician were included in Skills Queensland’s quarterly Queensland Occupations in Demand List.

This provides a summary of all the jobs that are highest in demand in Queensland, regardless of skill level, and was designed to support industry and government decision making around skills and training.

Bridie Jabour of the Brisbane Times noted that engineering professionals, truck drivers, environmental scientists and registered nurses were increasing in demand, while occupations such as human resource professionals, veterinarians and cooks saw demand easing.

The Queensland in Demand List differs from that of the National Skills Needs List, with the former focusing on areas that are experiencing a continuing shortage of qualified workers.

Businesses operating in trades on the National Skills Needs List may be eligible for financial incentives offered through initiatives such as Tools For Your Trade and Support for Adult Australian Apprentices.

Some of the jobs listed on the National Skills Needs List include gasfitters, landscape gardeners, motor mechanics, welders (first class), cooks and drainers.
