$2.5 million cash injection for Rockhampton’s Beef Australia expo 2015

The country’s largest and most significant cattle industry event, Beef Australia, will receive $2.5 million in funding for its next expo in 2015.

Australian prime minister Kevin Rudd and minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Joel Fitzgibbon made the announcement yesterday (July 16).

The Beef Australia expo will benefit many of the 184,000 Australians employed in meat processing and agriculture and will promote Australia’s industry technology and cattle on an international stage.

The federal government also recently announced a $60 million funding package to build the meat supply chain and improve long-term trade investment opportunities between Australia and Indonesia.

This injection of funds in the industry could create opportunities for those interested in pursuing relevant apprenticeships in Queensland.

Last year’s event attracted more than 85,000 international, interstate and local visitors, with more than 4,000 cattle from over 30 breeds displayed. Seminars, property tours and displays were also showcased at the event.

The Beef Australia expo is held every three years in Rockhampton, with the next event to be held from May 4-9 2015.
