Australian industry will take a lead role in advising on reforms for vocational education and training (VET) to ensure the sector drives productivity and competitiveness improvements across the economy.
In 2014-2015, the state government has budgeted $615 million to address vocational training. Of that funding, roughly a third will go into the foundation skills necessary to start an apprenticeship.
As a result, much of the region’s potential has not been realised, despite having plentiful resources and land for development.
Underpinning this economic backbone is the state’s network of ports which enable the movement of large volumes of goods in and out of Queensland.
However, the focus on attending university may not be having the desired effect when graduates attempt to enter the labour force. While higher education provides people with the theoretical knowledge of their industry, employers are growing concerned about a lack of practical experience and work-relevant skills.
These travel problems are especially bad in the wet season, when heavy rains can make it more difficult to move around the state.
The city centre of Brisbane will soon be home to one of Australia’s largest urban rejuvenation projects, as the Queen’s wharf redevelopment moves into the next stage of planning.
Although much smaller than other mining operations like iron ore, gas has continued to grow its presence in Australia, thanks to an increasing number of projects in the pipeline.
