New Sunshine Coast GP clinic to boost employment

The Sunshine Coast’s construction sector could see a boost in work over the coming months, after a multimillion-dollar contract to build a new medical facility was awarded recently.

Works are set to commence on a new GP super clinic hub at Sippy Downs town centre – a project that is expected to generate around 170 jobs in the Sunshine Coast, APN Media reports.

Comprising 2,900 sq m of medical, special and allied health services, the new facility is due for completion in December this year.

The major development, which could create opportunities for apprenticeships in Queensland, will be adjacent to the multibillion-dollar University of Sunshine Coast Hospital.

The health centre will be closely linked with the new hospital, integrating its primary care services to support the growing community.

Sunshine Coast Council mayor Mark Jamieson said the clinic is just one of several major projects earmarked for the developing region.

“The Sunshine Coast, long-known as a major tourism destination, is on the cusp of an unprecedented era of investment in new public infrastructure from the new University Hospital, expansion of its airport and the development of a new commercial business district,” Mr Jamieson commented.
