Ergon Energy seeks apprenticeships in Queensland

Ergon Energy has announced that it is making 72 apprenticeships in Queensland available as part of its strategy for the future.

The organisation is looking for budding electrical workers through its 2014 apprenticeship drive, with positions open in 29 locations across the state.

Queensland energy minister Mark McArdle said boosting apprenticeships is about building skills and encouraging adequate training for future growth.

“The diverse positions on offer mean there are a number of opportunities for those who want to advance their career in the challenging sector that is electricity,” he explained.

Chief executive of Ergon Energy Ian Mcleod said successful applicants would begin working for the company as it continues to maintain a focus on the delivery of a safe, affordable and reliable electricity supply to consumers.

“We’re committed to training the workforce of tomorrow while balancing stakeholder and customer expectations in what is a challenging and ever-evolving energy landscape,” he stated.

Advertised positions cover electrotechnology electricians, communications technicians, electrical distribution linepersons and networking and IT roles, among others.

Mr Mcleod said Ergon’s goal for the future is to limit increases in the network component of electricity costs to less than the Consumer Price Index, with current efficiency measures expected to achieve this from 2015.
