Job opportunities in Townsville to be discussed at expo

Queensland employees facing redundancy are being given the chance to seek out new career paths at a Townsville Jobs and Skills Expo next week.

Held on Wednesday December 12, the event is part of the federal government’s $850,000 Queensland Workers’ Assistance package, with links to hundreds of jobs said to be available on the day.

The exhibition could offer opportunities for apprenticeships in Townsville, as it will be attended by training organisations, employers and industry representatives.

Senator for Queensland Jan McLucas said that while Australia has one of the lowest unemployment rates of developed countries in the world, finding a new job can be difficult.

She added: “Job seekers who attended the expo on the day will experience a ‘jobs and skills marketplace’ connecting them with employers, private recruitment agencies, Jobs Services Australia providers and registered training organisations and hundreds of employment and training opportunities.”

Kate Ellis, federal minister for employment participation, said 2,500 Queenslanders have already benefited from similar expos and workshops around the state, describing the reaction as “overwhelming”.

These events help people to discover how the Australian government can provide them with links to work opportunities, she explained.

The exhibition will take place at the Townsville RSL Stadium between 10:00 and 15:00 AEDT.
