Making a difference to regional businesses

Business Administration trainee Sonia Rudd had been struggling for almost two years to find employment in her local community. After relocating and sending off many applications Sonia was getting frustrated with the lack of responses despite having a great employment history.

Sonia came to speak with a support officer at BUSY At Work delivering the QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program. She was quickly identified for a suitable position with a local business. Sonia was referred to the local business owner, Angela who immediately saw her potential to work in an administration position.

Angela says, “Sonia is a very dedicated and focussed in her role as Administrator. Sonia has been and is very willing to learn and help improve our office procedures. It has been extremely beneficial in knowing Sonia has all the support and training she requires.

“It allows me the freedom to attend to other business matters. The training has also been flexible to suit our business needs”.

Sonia is now well on her way to completing her certificate and says, “I am thoroughly enjoying the training, the support and my position here”.

BUSY At Work is a not-for-profit organisation within apprenticeships and employment and has played a key role in growing apprenticeship and traineeship numbers throughout Queensland. The QGC Strengthening Local Workforce Program is a partnership between QGC and BUSY At Work which aims to attract apprentices and trainees into careers outside of the coal seam gas industry. It provides support through mentoring and coaching to help with both retention and completion rates. The QGC Strengthening Local Workforces Program will support local businesses in Western Downs, Gladstone, North Burnett and Banana Shire to develop a local labour force in non-coal seam gas industries and contribute to creating sustainable communities in these regions.
