Queensland Government to Announce $32 Million Incentive Program for Young Apprentices

Young job seekers and employers in Queensland will soon have further reason to consider taking on an apprentice, with the Queensland Government to announce a $32 million Great Training for Quality Jobs program.  Under the program, training costs will be covered for apprentices who are aged under 21.

The move is another strategy to address skills shortages for 139 industries and is expected to progress approximately 60,000 young people into a trade in the next four years.  These trades include electrical work, plumbing, engineering, health care, hospitality, early childhood education, baking, commercial cookery and hairdressing.

In addition to incentives already offered to businesses including tax cuts for taking on an apprenticeship or traineeship in a skills need industry, this initiative is a welcome addition.

“There has never been a better time for Queensland businesses to consider taking on an apprentice or trainee. We encourage all eligible industry employers to take advantage of this initiative which can assist in overall apprenticeship costs and increase skills in their workplace”, Managing Director at BUSY At Work, Paul Miles said.

The government is expected to make a formal announcement regarding the program later today.

“Business owners are encouraged to contact BUSY At Work for more information on employing an apprentice in their workplace and how these incentives can be accessed,” Paul further stated.

More information regarding apprenticeships and traineeships can be found on BUSY At Work website or contact 13 28 79.
