North Coast region recognises top training talent

Training awards season is in full-swing this August with the North Coast winners for the regional final of the Queensland Training Awards announced on Saturday (August 3) in Caloundra.

The North Coast region covers the areas of the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Fraser Coast, Bundaberg and Gympie, with around 14,500 apprentices and trainees.

Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie said that this year, North Coast received the highest number of award nominations in Queensland, almost two-thirds (62 per cent) more than 2012.

Those outstanding individuals pursuing apprenticeships in the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas were recognised at the North Coast ceremony, with apprentice electrician Ross Maidens taking home the Apprentice of the Year award.

Alec Milligan, pursuing a Certificate III in Sport (Coaching), was named the Trainee of the Year, with Payton Jennings (Certificate III in Agriculture) awarded the title of School-based Apprentice or Trainee of the Year.

The individual winners from Queensland’s seven regions will battle it out for the state title on September 13 in Brisbane.

Minister for Education, Training and Employment John-Paul Langbroek congratulated the apprentices, trainees, local employers, trainers and registered training organisations for recognising that “quality training is the way forward for Queensland”.
