Queensland Youth Strategy to help young people reach ‘full potential’

Queensland's young people will be given the support needed to reach their full potential with the Queensland Youth Strategy.

Thousands of young people in Queensland will have an extra boost of support in their endeavours with the release of the Queensland Youth Strategy.

Minister for Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services Tracy Davis launched the new strategy at the Redlands PCYC yesterday (July 4).

“We want our young people [to] have the support they need to reach their full potential and lead healthy and fulfilling lives; this strategy is just one way of doing that,” Ms Davis said.

“With almost 590,000 young people aged 12 to 21 living in Queensland, we want to make sure we are delivering the right services and information in the right locations, at the right time, to the young people who need it most.”

Six key areas of connection are detailed in the strategy including education, training and jobs, health and wellbeing, families and friends and social networks, arts and culture, access to supports and services, and community participation and volunteering.

The state government says that they want young people to be better informed about their study and job opportunities. There are school-based apprenticeships and other job initiatives that can help youth plan ahead for their careers.

The Queensland government states that it is committed to providing young people with training opportunities, vocational information and pathways to jobs.
