Rockhampton FOGS Indigenous Careers Expo – August 14

School leavers thinking of pursuing apprenticeships in Rockhampton should make sure to free up Wednesday August 14 on their calendar, with the 2013 Former Origin Greats (FOGS) Indigenous Employment and Careers Expo rolling around again in the region.

This event aims to provide Indigenous job seekers throughout Queensland with the opportunity to meet with training providers, employers and educators to find direction with their careers.

There’s also the opportunity for visitors to meet former Queensland State of Origin legends. Guests at previous events have included Alfie Langer, Steve Price, Gary Belcher and Gene Miles.

The careers expo, supported by Construction Skills Queensland, will take place at Rockhampton Showgrounds from 09:00 to 14:00. Professions on show at the event include plumbing, tourism, nursing, hospitality, building and construction, defence forces, mining, security, and childcare.

Federal Minister for Indigenous Employment and Economic Development Julie Collins said that the FOGS-Australian government partnership through the expos was about encouraging young people to “stay in school, find a job and become leaders in their communities”.

“These expos build on the outstanding results from 2012 where more than 16,000 young Indigenous job seekers attended the seven FOGS events,” Ms Collins said.
