‘Spectacular’ growth in the mining sector over the last decade

The mining boom has created thousands of jobs in Australia over the last decade.

Full time job numbers are growing and the rate of growth is increasing for Australia’s overall job market in 2013, according to Fairfax’s latest Employment Forecast.

In Queensland, in particular, things are about to pick up after a long period of slowing growth.

The May 2013 Edition of the forecast reveals that there has been a 15.1 per cent growth in the number of mining jobs over the last 12 months, which could come as good news to those pursuing apprenticeships in Queensland related to this sector.

Some mining apprenticeship fields include mechanical fitting, electrical, automotive and metal fabrication.

In the last decade, growth was noted by Fairfax to be “spectacular” in the mining sector, adding over 180,000 jobs. The forecast states that mining will remain one of Australia’s “fastest growing industries”.

Positions for mining engineers were also found to have grown by almost one-quarter (23.6 per cent) over the year to May, with demand picking up for engineering managers and jobs for electrical engineers also growing strongly again.
