Try’a Trade event broadens horizons for young Queenslanders

The Try' A Trade event gives students an insight into various areas of employment including plumbing, bricklaying and carpentry.

Students will have the chance to try their hand at trades such as bricklaying, electrical, plastering and plumbing, with Construction Skills Queensland (CSQ) and WorldSkills Australia (WSA) partnering up for Try’a Trade.

This initiative introduces young Queenslanders to a variety of building and construction trades, and also allows students to speak with various industry professionals.

Try’a Trade will feature across the state with more than 30 career events taking place in regional and South East Queensland.

These Try’a Trade activities can help to serve as a stepping stone for students who may be considering school-based apprenticeships.

WSA chief executive officer Mark Callaghan met with CSQ chief executive officer Brett Schimming in March to officiate another 12 month partnership.

This will be the sixth year that CSQ and WSA have brought Try’a Trade to Queensland, with WSA noting that this partnership demonstrates CSQ’s commitment to skill development in the construction industry.

The Try’a Trade/Try’a Skill program allows communities across Australia to give various trades and skills a go, promoting opportunities that are available via a VET pathway.
