A direction statement for the InfrastructureQ initiative has been released by the Queensland government, in order to provide a guideline for the development of the state’s built environment.
The forum was the latest step in finalising the state’s blueprint for the construction industry, which began with consultation earlier in the year. Organised by the Department of Housing and Public Works, this industry-led process has already raised a number of key goals and strategies which will guide construction work through the next two decades.
Training outcomes for apprentices and trainees are the focus of an upcoming conference, organised by BUSY At Work. The event is titled ‘How apprentices can help your star rating’, and focuses heavily on the benefits trainees and apprentices can offer business owners.
Employers have a lot to gain from taking on an apprentice, with this process helping to round out and expand the core skills of their workforce. However, companies are also making a big investment which needs to be considered if this process is going to have an effective outcome.
However, the existing bridge is rapidly nearing the end of its life. The current two-lane bridge has been in place since the 1960’s and is expected to reach maximum capacity in 2031. In the last five years, there have also been seven closures to the 835 metre-long bridge. For locals and tourists, this makes the island much less accessible, with this decreasing further in future years.
Today, Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Minister of Industry, Ian MacFarlane announced two new innovative training programmes. The aim of these programmes will be to enable young job seekers in regional communities to successfully get a job and provide employers the skilled employees they need to grow their business.
In a joint release between Prime Minister Tony Abbott and the Minister of Industry Ian MacFarlane, plans for the Commonwealth Government to invest $200 million each year to establish a new Australian Apprenticeship Support Services were unveiled.
