The professional services company has recently pointed to what it sees as the bright spots of the Queensland economy, with this growth underpinning the state’s future success.
The Commission has predicted the industries which will see the most growth between 2011 and 2025, giving a good indication of which careers are going to be in highest demand.
Brisbane in particular is witnessing a strong increase in the construction of multi-unit residential and commercial projects in the CBD and surrounding areas. In fact, the state government has reported a 33 per cent growth in the number of cranes operational in Brisbane, as new structures get off the ground.
Now in its fourth year, National Skills Week provides a platform to highlight the opportunities and career pathways available through Vocational Education and Training. The theme this year is The Magical Mystery Tour of Skills. Each year, engagement from the sector has increased, complimented by new and innovative ideas. It is expected 2014 will maintain that approach. Hundreds of events take place nationally every year.
Latest trend estimates show that the number of people starting trade and non-trade apprenticeships and traineeships have declined.

However, the city’s CBD may soon be on people’s minds, since the Southport area was designated a priority growth zone late last year. Since then, the area has seen roughly $200 million in investments planned for the region.
BUSY At Work Southport, Gold Coast today announced it was named the winner of the National Youth Employment Award for its innovative R U BUSY? Program. The Employment Awards were held last night at the Diamond Head Room at QT Hotel, Gold Coast during the Australian Long Term Unemployment Conference.
Liam came onto the 1st R U BUSY? program for 2014 facing many barriers, homelessness being one of them. Liam was referred to the program by Lawson House (youth homeless accommodation) and even after the R U BUSY? program had finished, Liam went from homeless shelters on the Gold Coast to Brisbane, then back to living with his parents on a short term basis as an emergency option.
