Part-time trend in jobs continues while youth unemployment remain high

The Labour Force figures released last week show unemployment rate has fallen to 5.6 per cent in August 2016, while participation rate decreased by 0.2 percentage points to 64.7 per cent. This was despite the Bureau of Statistics estimating the loss of 3,900 jobs last month.Since May 2016, the seasonally adjusted underemployment rate has increased by 0.3 percentage points to 8.7 per cent.

Latest data shows Apprentice numbers decline while non trades increase

Data released yesterday by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) revealed the overall apprentice and trainee commencements were down by 3.7 per cent compared to the same period last year. The overall decrease can be attributed to a decline in the number of commencements in trade occupations, down 10.8% to 27 900 for the March 2016 quarter when compared with the March 2015 quarter.

Mackay Regional Football Zone reaps the benefits from Work for the Dole Program

It’s hard to believe that in February this year the grounds at the Mackay Regional Football Park used for junior soccer were in a very poor state and in need of community support. Six months on the grounds have undergone a major transformation as a result of assistance received through the participants of the Mackay Regional Football Zone (MRFZ) Work for the Dole Project.
