It’s hard to imagine many 19 year olds being able to fit in seamlessly into a challenging new customer service role and always do it with a smile on their face. For former Noosa District State High School student, Caralee Foxwell that challenge comes easily.

The enthusiastic and cheerful teenager is now three months into her Certificate III in Financial Services and very much enjoying her role as a full time Junior Customer Service Officer with the Noosaville branch of the Bank of Queensland (BOQ).

Having previously gained hospitality work experience at the Noosa Reef Hotel and Coolum Beach Surf Club, Caralee was excited to be back working with customers in her new career with the bank.

“Every day is different and there is always a lot to learn. As a Customer Service Officer you are the face of the bank so it is important to make sure that you are creating a positive experience for the customer. I love working in the bank and the staff are always very supportive when I need assistance,” Ms Foxwell said.

As part of her new role Caralee has been performing teller duties including setting up bank accounts, processing deposits and withdrawals as well conversing with customers on their banking needs.

During her time at the bank Caralee has also managed to complete her BOQ (24 module) Tier 2 Accreditation which is the minimum requirement for employees dealing with customers in the finance and insurance industry.

BUSY At Work Career and Placement Advisor, Lynda Green said she was delighted to see Caralee performing well in her chosen career and looking forward to further collaborating with BOQ in their future recruitment needs.

“BOQ operates a model where around 60% of their branches are franchises, owned and managed by a local. Because Noosaville branch is run by an Owner-Manager, they were very keen to recruit a trainee from the local area and were initially unaware of the Gateway Services that BUSY provides.”

“We were able to put an advertisement together and provide tailored services including screening, testing and short listing of all applicants to ensure they got the right trainee for the role,” Ms Green said.

BOQ Noosaville Owner-Manager, Rod Pertot said he was delighted with the support he had received from BUSY At Work in recruiting Caralee to the role.

“At BOQ we are very passionate about employing local staff and making sure they have every opportunity to access training. As an employer the BOQ Group, and its Learning and Development team, is committed to ensure that every employee is engaged, learns and continues to raise the bar to impact on positive outcomes for themselves and our customers.

“We are delighted with Caralee and pleased to be able to give her the opportunity to grow and develop her career with BOQ. She has been a great fit for our team and her enthusiasm and positive attitude has been a pleasure,” Mr Pertot said.

BUSY At Work, CEO Paul Miles said that BUSY was delighted to support employers who were willing to give young people like Caralee an opportunity to work in their chosen career.

“We are excited to be working with BOQ in providing tailored Gateway Services to support trainees and apprentices.”

“Caralee has demonstrated a very positive attitude and a great work ethic and with the right training and mentoring, she will have a bright future ahead of her,” Mr Miles said.
