Expansive new highway boosts trade in Queensland

The Warrego Highway in Queensland has been approved for an upgrade that will make it two lanes in both directions. Authorities said the 714 kilometre road will bring “enormous” amounts of potential for Queensland businesses, as well as jobseekers.

Automotive industry set for greater growth

When it was announced that three major car manufacturers – Ford, Holden and Toyota – were moving their vehicle production plants off Australian soil, other employment sectors proved capable of filling the void. What’s more, despite this blip, the industry is set to grow substantially over the coming years, providing better opportunities for automotive employment and traineeships.

Better transport for rural south-east Queensland

Transport corridors in Queensland face a range of different challenges, with many small towns facing heavy vehicle use as different projects and equipment move around the state. While these routes are obviously essential for the state’s mining and transport industries, they don’t necessarily provide a safe environment for locals.

More apprentices to be hired in construction

According to the latest quarterly survey by Master Builders Australia, the commercial construction industry has hit a new five-year high. The industry body’s Chief Economist, Peter Jones, said this represents the industry fully recovering from the global financial crisis and reaching it’s highest point since the 2009 crash.

New funding for Indigenous employment

Between the first and 26th of September, community groups and registered training organisations will be able to apply for funding of up to $400,000 for helping individuals study towards a qualification.

Affordable housing construction an opportunity for apprentices

At the same time, private property developments have been continuing at a strong pace across Queensland. A number of new apartment developments are currently planned for Brisbane, with these likely to contribute to the ongoing employment opportunities.

Southport revitalisation moving forward

One of these projects is the redevelopment of the old Gold Coast hospital site, a 3.4 hectare plot in the centre of the City’s CBD. Although the site is still being cleared, the state government has recently put the plot of land up for tender. Expressions of Interest will close later this year, with the successful bid taking control of the cleared site in 2015.
